St. Luke's Respect Life Prayer

O Blessed Mother,

Pray for us your children

That we may be strong against the forces of death.

Look down upon the babies not allowed to be born,

On the poor, on the victims of social injustice,

On the elderly and sick killed by the indifference or misguided mercy.

Help us appreciate the miracle of life as a gift from God,

And may we become a People of Life!   Amen.

The Pope's Prayer From the Gospel of Life

O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life.

Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all the people of good will, the civilization of truth and love to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen

(John Paul II, on March 25, 1995, the solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord)

Daily Prayer for the Unborn

Heavenly Father, as the author of life, touch with compassion the hearts of those women and men who, with your help, have conceived human life and now think of abortion not parenthood. Help them to understand that their newly created child and all children are made in your image and likeness and made for eternal life with You.

Dispel their fears and helplessness and give them true and generous hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a parent alone can give. And when your children turn away from you through abortion, penetrate their hearts to seek your loving forgiveness and healing power.

Finally Lord, soften the hearts of the abortionists and enlighten all elected officials to protect the unborn, to accept your loving grace and to recognize the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Amen.

  Mary, Our Mother

Mary, dearest Mother in Heaven

Pray for us, and

Especially You’re little ones in danger of abortion! Amen.

Prayer for the Helpless Unborn

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protects us against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image-as well as theirs-made for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that only a mother can give. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

A Pro-Life Prayer

Father we praise you for the work of Your hands. For human life, made in Your image, for the gift of Your Son Who saved our nature, for the Power of Your Spirit, Who fills our hearts, for all You bestow upon us, we praise You, we thank You and we bless You. Help us to protect the life you gave us; support the aged, guide the young, lift up the failing and heal the sick. To all people grant Your truth in its fullness. May those who are yet unborn soon see the light of day and live to give You glory through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Nation's Prayer

God, Our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among Your people.

Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the “culture of death.” Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph

I love you very much.

I beg You to save the life of the unborn baby

that I have spiritually adopted,

and is in danger of abortion. Amen.

Guardian Angel Prayer for the Unborn

I pray that you will go forth around the world

this very day and every day in the future

to join the Guardian Angel

of each person who is considering an abortion

to help persuade them to seek

other alternatives for saving their babies! Amen.

(Authored by George Didge, Manassas, Virginia)

Gift of Life

God of all goodness, You have entrusted us with the gift of life. Help us to appreciate that gift from the first moments of conception to the last breaths of old age. Send Your strength to all those who defend the unborn, the weak and the dying against attempts to cut short their lives. May Your Holy Spirit touch the hearts of those who are tempted to choose the way of death rather than life. Grant that your people may always be a sign of Your love in the world. Amen.

Psalm 139:15 - 16

My frame was not hidden

From you when I was

made in a secret place.

When I was woven together

In the depths of the earth,

Your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

Were written in your book

Before one of them came to be.

Prayer for Unborn Human Life

O Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and earth and all things, you create today millions of human beings who are never permitted to see the light of day because of the sin of abortion. Grant to mankind the wisdom to respect human life at every stage of development. You infuse souls into innocent babies even while still in their mother’s wombs, their temporary homes. Grant that no one deprives Your most innocent ones the privilege of Your holy baptism whereby they may be born again to Your supernatural life by grace.

One soul in Your eyes, Almighty God, is more value than the whole-created universe. Accept the precious blood of Your Son Jesus Christ present on our altars and in tabernacles throughout the world in reparation for the sins of abortive murder.

Even before Your Divine Son was born of Mary, dear God, when Your holy Mother greeted Elizabeth shortly after the conception of the Divine Child, Elizabeth asked, “How am I worthy that the Mother of my Lord should come to me?” Long before the birth of the Divine Child, the Holy Spirit inspired Elizabeth to call Mary “ Mother” and the unborn Child, her “Lord”.

Almighty God, remove the scourge of abortion from the face of the earth. Amen.

Prayer for Courage and Strength

Dear God, Father of Us all, through Mary, our beloved heavenly Mother, You sent to us baby Jesus, our dearest Brother. Mary prayed for wisdom from above. She sought help, strength, and love. I pray that, like Mary, new mothers bend their knee asking for courage to seek help and courage to pray. To pray for this life and to pray each day. To ask for strength to stand with You as You help bear their fearing what to do. They know it is life they have given. It is life that they carry. Let them hold this dear life, nurturing life without fear because Your love will sustain them and You will protect them and lead them to safety in their valley of tears. We ask you this, O Lord and we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, today.  Amen.

Prayer for the Right to Life

O heavenly Father, strengthen us against the mounting forces of anti-life; enlighten those who walk in this deadly way that they may see the enormity of their sin and return to the generous observance of the divine law. We pray, too, for mothers, that they may prize the great privilege of motherhood; and that they may bring up their children in the holy love and fear of God, thus saving their own immortal souls and furthering the honor and glory of their Maker. Through Christ , our Lord. Amen

( Prayer of Cardinal Terence Cooke)

Prayer for Reverence for Life

Almighty God, giver of all that is good, we thank You for the precious gift of human life:

For the life in the womb, coming from Your creative power,

For the life of children, making us glad with their freshness and promise,

For the life of young people, hoping for a better world,

For the life of people who are disabled, teaching is that every life has value,

For the life of the elderly, witnessing to the ageless values of patience and wisdom.

Like Blessed Mary, may we always say “ YES” to your gift.

May we defend it and promote it from conception to its natural end. And bring us at last, O Father, to the fullness of eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer for the Respect of Human Life

Lord, in this life we have many crosses to bear, and we have no desire to have any other burdens on our shoulders. For this reason, we ask You to help keep us chaste in mind, soul and body. To be chaste in mind is to be chaste in thought. To be chaste in soul is to be chaste in heart. To be chaste in body is to be chaste in our daily actions towards others and ourselves. Sometimes in our actions we do make mistakes and we are sorry for them. Sometimes the consequences from those actions are easily put aside; yet sometimes these consequences can lead to choices that are against Your will. Such as taking the life of an unborn child. Although society condones this terrible act, it goes against the values You call us to hold dear to our hearts that all unborn children   are sacred and human and they deserve a chance to live as we do. Please Lord, join the hearts of all men and pregnant women considering an abortion, and all who are for abortion, to help them make the choice that is according to Your will, to respect all human life especially that of the unborn child. Amen.

A Christmas Season Prayer

Praise to You, Lord God!

You have become one of us. You have become a human being, while retaining all your power and holiness as God! You, O Lord, made the journey of the unborn child. By being an embryo, a fetus, and a newborn, you joined all unborn and newborn children to you!

From the beginning of history, O Lord, You were the Creator of every human life. Now, with Christmas, You join Yourself in an unthinkable way with the life You created.

Let this Christmas season, O God, fill all of us with awe and wonder at how close human life is to You. Cleanse the world of all that tarnishes and rejects this gift. Purify our hearts of all that fears this gift. Help us to fully embrace the truth that we are made in Your image and that Life is a miracle.

Let our Christmas joy be the joy of welcoming every human life! Amen.

Prayer of Mother Teresa

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with the spirit and love. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine, so to shine as to be a light to others.   Amen.

  Prayer for the Aging

Dear Lord, as I grow older do not let me ever be fearful or lose hope. Help me to see the good around me rather than the evil, and give me grace and strength to continue

to love and serve You until the last breath of life. Then when my task is ended and the day is over, lead me to the peace and joy of heaven to be with You and all my loved ones forever. Amen .

( Prayer of Cardinal Terence Cooke)

A Prayer for One’s Self When Sick

Dear Lord, You are the great physician. I turn to you in my sickness and ask You to help me.

Put Your hand upon me as You did for the people long ago and let health and wholeness come into me from You. I put myself under Your care and affirm my faith that even now Your marvelous healing grace is making me well and strong again.

I know that I ask more than I deserve but you never measure our benefits on that basis. You just love us back into health. Do that for me, I earnestly ask, and I will try to serve you faithfully. This I promise through Christ our Lord. Amen.

( Prayer of Cardinal Terence Cooke)

Prayer after Death

O Lord Jesus Christ, You are the resurrection and the life. You have promised that those who believe in You, even if they die, will have life everlasting. May this sacred promise comfort us in our sadness that we may take solace in the hope of a life after death. Help is to realize that those who die believing in you will live forever. O Savior of the world, reassure us in our belief that death is not an end of life, but rather a change by which we enter a life of perfect joy in Christ Jesus. Amen.

( Prayer of Cardinal Terence Cooke)

Prayer of Blessed Gianna Molla

Oh Jesus, I promise You to submit myself to all that You permit to befall me; make me know Your Will. My most sweet Jesus, infinitely merciful God, most tender Father of souls, and in a particular way, of the most weak, most miserable, most infirm which You carry with special tenderness between Your divine arms, I come to You to ask You , through the love and merits of Your Sacred Heart, the grace to comprehend and to do always Your Holy Will, the grace to confide in You, the grace to rest securely through time and eternity in Your loving divine arms.  Amen .

Prayer in Timeof Need

O Lord, in our present need, please help us believe that You are aware of our anxiety and will do what is best for us.  Give us the strength to trust in You and to put the present and future in Your merciful hands.  Amen.

Prayer from the Votive Mass of Blessed Gianna

Grant, O Father, that Your faithful following the example of Blessed Gianna may faithfully live the grace which consecrates spousal love and family affection and with grateful hearts may welcome children in whom the image of Christ shines surrounding them with vigilant love from the first moments of their lives.  Through our Lord and our God who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever.  Amen.

A Prayer for a Holy Death

May the Lord support us

All the day long,

Till the shades lengthen

And the evening comes

And the busy world is hushed,

and the fever of life is over,

and our work is done.

Then in His mercy may He give us

a safe lodging

And a holy rest,

and peace at the last.

Amen.

The Jesus Prayer

(From the earliest day of Christian monasticism, a simple but intense form of meditation was encouraged.  It consists in repeating one of the following or similar forms over and over.)

Lord, Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner

OR

Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us!

Intercessory Prayer to Mary

(Devotion to Mary began with the apostolic Church, and her name appears in many early documents and liturgis.  The oldest intercessory prayer was found in a fragment of an early fourth-century manuscript.  It has been in use ever since).

We fly to your patronage,

Holy Mother of God;

Despise not our petitions in our necessities,

But deliver us from all danger,

glorious and blessed Virgin.  Amen.

Prayer to Christ the Healer

In the comfort of your love,

I pour out to you, my Savior,

The memories that haunt me,

The anxieties that perplex me,

The fears that stifle me,

The sickness that prevails upon me,

And the frustration of all the pain that weaves about within me.

Lord, help me to see your peace in my turmoil,

Your compassion in my sorrow,

Your forgiveness in my weakness

And your love in my need.

Touch me O Lord,

With Your healing power and strength.  Amen.

A Patient's Prayer

O my God, I accept this sickness with which Thou are pleased to visit me, as a special favor from Thy Divine Majesty.  I accept all its circumstances and consequences in satisfaction for my sins.  Thou gavest me health and strength, O Lord, and Thou hast taken them away; may Thy Holy Name be forever blessed.  I most humbly adore Thy Divine Appointments, and resign myself entirely to the direction of Thy Wise Providence.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all my physical and mental sufferings in union with Thy suffering on the Cross, for my satisfaction, the conversion of souls and an increase of religious vocations.  Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe - Intercessor of the Unborn

Spiritual Adoption

(To help stop the anti-life push in the world, the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the spiritual adoption of an unborn child.  This is done by praying that one particular but unknown child's life be spared abortion and be allowed to continue to live.  To accomplish this, it was recommended, an individual say the following daily prayer for a period of nine months.)

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

I love you very much.  I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.

The name I wish to give my baby is                        .

Jesus may Your peace and your love

embrace the hearts, minds and souls of

the family, friends and loved ones

who encourage this abortion and

lead them all to Your sacred eucharistic heart.

Amen.

(During your earthly life, this spiritually adopted child of yours will be known only to God, but in the world to come it is hoped that you will meet the souls your prayers saved and spend eternal happiness with them.)
