Lectors

Purpose or Mission: To proclaim the Word of God during Mass with devotion and clarity.

Req uirements:    To be a Lector, one must be:

*At least 14 years old.

* A Catholic who is fully initiated: i.e., has received Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation.

* Should be leading a life of faith. 

* Be a registered and participating member of the parish. 

* Be free from any canonical penalty legitimately declared or imposed.

* Be reverential and respectful of the faith. 

* Be a person of good moral character. 

* Possesses the necessary ability and talents to proclaim the Word of God - in a clear, dignified, and effective manner. 

* If married, be in a valid marriage according to the law of the Catholic Church. 

Time Commitment: Preparation of the readings prior to the Mass.  Asked to arrive 20 minutes prior to Mass on the date you are scheduled to serve.  Schedules are created quarterly using online scheduling software, Ministry Scheduling Pro.  Volunteers are asked to update their profiles with the dates they are not available to serve in advance.  This system also sends reminders and is used to request substitutes. 

Training:   Training sessions are held one to two times per year.  A meeting with the Pastor is also required prior to being commissioned to serve as a Lector.
