Preparation

1.      In order to allow sufficient time for preparation, the couple must contact the pastor of the parish at least six months before the wedding is to take place.

 2.       The preparation consists of:

                                 I.      At least three interviews with the priest or deacon.

II.     Completion and evaluation of the FOCCUS Couple Inventory (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study).  This is an aid in exploring the couple’s relationship and feelings about entering into marriage.

III.     Participation in the Engaged Encounter Program, the Pre-Cana Conference or the Evenings for Engaged Program (when available).

A tentative date for the wedding may be made during the initial interview, but the date becomes finalized only upon completion of the above mentioned preparation and presentation of the documents required by Church law.

The Ceremony

  1.       Marriages may be celebrated on most days at a reasonable hour, provided there is no conflict with other parish functions, and the organist is available.  No ceremony may start after 1:00 pm on Saturday due to subsequent confessions and evening Masses.

 2.       Rehearsal time should be arranged with the priest / deacon who will witness the marriage at the time of the first interview.

 3.       Wedding liturgies prepared by the bride and groom must be discussed with the priest / deacon before the wedding.

 4.       Priests / deacons from outside the parish may officiate at the wedding if they are related to the bride or groom, or if there is some special relationship with the family.  They must, of course, follow the customs and regulations of the parish.

 5.       Music for all weddings will be supervised and / or supplied by the parish Music Minister whom the couple should contact well before the wedding date.  When, for special reasons, permission is granted for the use of musicians from outside the parish, the total offering to the parish remains the same.

 6.       Flowers and runner, if desired, are furnished by the couple.

 7.       The throwing of rice, confetti, bird seed, etc, is NOT permitted in the church or on church property.

 8.       Brides and bridesmaids are to dress in a modest fashion and strapless gowns are not allowed at St. Luke.

 9.       For any other questions you may have, please call the Sacristan, Joy Burgess at 786-3648.
